- The American Lung Association of a large metropolitan city
in collaboration with the city and state health departments
contracted with HCG to plan and facilitate a one-day symposium
comprised of community and religious leaders, service providers
and policy and decision makers. The purpose of the symposium
was to begin development of a community-based strategic plan
designed to prevent and control tuberculosis in the city's African-American
communities that were experiencing a high incidence of the disease.
More than 90 leaders participated and the outcomes were presented
in a formal report prepared by HCG to the City Council's Committee
on Health. The Committee introduced a resolution the city council
that passed and called for similar public hearings/symposiums
to be conducted in three other communities with a high burden
of the disease. The city council also provided seed funding
to carry out these programs.
- A professional association working in collaboration with
a federal agency
established
a committee of nationally recognized experts in managed care,
public health practice, and academe. HCG personnel facilitated
meetings and discussions with these experts to: identify and
discuss the impact of managed care on academic public health,
prioritize issues that could be addressed by academic public
health, and formulate recommendations on how schools of public
health should address the priorities identified. A report of
meeting outcomes and recommendations was prepared and distributed
nationally.
